TEAM KNOWLEDGEPEDIA : After a thrilling encounter between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Rashid Khan & Co. qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. At Kingstown’s Arnos Well ground in St Vincent, Afghanistan registered an 8-run win over Bangladesh as they managed to defend a low total of 115 runs.
Bangladesh helped Afghanistan create history
Chasing 115, Bangladesh’s batting order collapsed like a house of cards, with only opener Liton Das playing the role of the only warrior. Despite play being stopped several times due to rain and the target was revised, Shanto & Co. were unable to capitalize on the situation.
The opener stayed unbeaten on 52 runs at the end of the game as Bangladesh faced an heartbreaking exit from the tournament. Afghanistan bowlers dominated the proceedings from ball number one and never let the batters settle. Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq picked up four wickets each to decimate the Tigers.
Once again Afghanistan’s bowlers did amazing
Rashid Khan played a brilliant cameo towards the end, striking three sixes to enable AFG to put up a decent score. Only Zadran (18) and Azmatuallh (10) managed to get double digit scores while the other batters walked back to the pavilion with single digit scores.

Naveen-ul-Haq is the player of the match for his sensational bowling at the top and at the backend as well. He begins by saying that they had been dreaming for the past few years about this day and says that he is at a loss for words to describe the feeling. Adds it is a very special moment for them as a team and as a country. He further adds that they knew Bangladesh was going to come hard in the powerplay to chase it down in 12.1 overs and says that they needed wickets inside the first six. Also adds that these are the kinds of games where you don’t know what is going to happen and the margin of error is very small. But also says that they knew if they don’t give away easy runs, they will be in the game. Ends up by saying they worked very hard for this day and are looking for a good semifinal performance.
Afghanistan to meet South Africa IN SEMI FINAL 1
The win for Afghanistan meant they finished in the top two of the Super 8 Group 1 and will now face South Africa for a place in the final. As things stand, Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan are two wins away from winning an improbable T20 World Cup. Their match will take place on Wednesday (Thursday in India) with an unlikely win seeing them face either England or India who play in the second semifinal later in the day.
